A family-run Southport business is looking forward to celebrating its first birthday, after launching a range of vegan milkshakes to add to its already popular vegan smoothies.

The Shake Factory opened on Hoghton Street in Southport town centre in June last year and has been growing its reputation through word of mouth.

Owner Philip Whitfield and Scarlet Whitfield said they launched their range of vegan drinks after a growing number of requests from customers, wanting to provide something much needed – while still keeping prices reasonable.

Philip and Scarlet opened their first The Shake Factory in Prescot in Knowsley four years ago, and then targeted Southport for their second venture last summer, wanting to make it a destination venue for customers who live in or visit the popular seaside resort. Southport enjoyed 9.1million visitors in 2019, the last year before the Covid pandemic.

Philip and Scarlet said: “We have launched a range of vegan shakes to add to our vegan smoothies.

“The shakes are available on our delivery menu as well as in store.

“We believe that we are the only high quality dessert specialists offering vegan shake options, so thought we should get that out there to let people know.

“The shakes are made with oat milk and flavour options range include; vegan chocolate, fruit, vegan sweets and flavoured syrups.

“We thought that no-one else locally was offering vegan shakes. Our customers know what we offer, our followers on Instagram know, but we just wanted to let other people know what we offer too.

“Lots of people were asking for them, people who were vegan, people who were lactose intolerant. There was a real demand that wasn’t being catered for.

“There is a whole customer base out there which is unable to go out and get something nice, and also to get something nice without having to pay unfairly high prices for it.

The owners continue to invest in their business. They recently converted the first floor of their premises to be able to offer a seating area, so customers can sit inside, as well as taking away or ordering a home delivery.

“We sell milkshakes, waffles, hot dogs and Ice cream.

“We are open everyday and can deliver to your doorstep

“We are an established family-run business that has been going for four years. Our first branch is in Prescot and we opened our second branch in Southport in June 2021, which also has seating upstairs.

“Many regard our milkshakes as the best in Merseyside, but we also provide waffles, cookie dough, smoothies, hot dogs and doughnuts. Every product we do is always to the highest standard.

“Our three  principles of business are that: we produce every product we do to an extremely high standard; we take our customer service really seriously at The Shake Factory as we want every customer that has walked through the door to leave being a friend to us; and we believe that people should get value for money. Our costs are extremely competitive.”

Philip and Scarlet are looking forward to celebrating their first birthday this June.

They said: “It has been an excellent first year! We have developed a nice, loyal, customer base.

“We are a hidden gem a little bit at the moment, but we are getting more well known.

“We are putting our roots down, to make sure we are a permanent fixture in the town.

“We have been working closely with Southport BID, and now offer Southport Gift Card, as well as working with their excellent Your Southport campaign.

“We want to become involved in the fabric of Southport.

“We want to be a landmark in this town, like Southport Pier, like Lord Street, as somewhere where, when people visit Souithport, they come and get their shakes from The Shake Factory.

“We are also looking forward to bringing The Shake Factory to Southport Food and Drink Festival this June.

“The event was very busy last year. On the Saturday it was very busy, but on the Sunday it was crazy!

“We believe there are going to be more traders there this year.

“It is going to be a four day event this year because of the Jubilee, and we are really looking forward to it.”
