Over 200 local businesses already feature on the site, which launched this weekend. More will join them over the coming weeks.
The Southport Indies campaign is designed to support and highlight local independent firms that are the beating heart of Southport. The southportindependents.co.uk website will allow people to enjoy a great way to discover new businesses and find just how much Southport has to offer.
Southport BID Business Engagement Manager Sarah Rodriguez said: “We want to celebrate the amazing shops, gorgeous cafes, vibrant bars and the wealth of small but often hidden businesses that make our town exciting and interesting.
“The website is designed to make it easy to search and explore and help view shopping, eating and socialising in Southport in a whole new light.
“There is so much more to offer in Southport then people often believe. We have some absolutely amazing businesses here, from shops that have been here for generations to exciting new cafés and bars. Now more than ever these independent businesses need all of our support. As the town begins recovering from the impact of lockdown, we wanted to bring initiatives to help highlight these businesses and put them at the forefront. We hope it will inspire people who are staying local for now to find places they haven’t been to and great places to become loyal to.”
The site includes a job vacancies section. Southport BID wants younger audiences to know that there are exciting businesses coming through and opportunities within those ventures. As the economy recovers it will be important for people to find the right role, and for businesses to find great local talent. Listings are free for BID area businesses.
Southport BID enlisted the services of Southport firm Blue Cow Digital to produce the website.
Digital Sales Manager Joe McArdle said: “As a proudly Southport-based company, Blue Cow Digital is extremely proud to have worked on developing a brand new website for Southport Independents.
“The need for strong independent business has become increasingly important in light of the changes to our living and working environments and we hope this new website can help facilitate some of the developing needs of our independent community.
“We worked with Southport BID to develop a brand new website with several new features that will benefit the fantastic community of independents Southport has to offer.
“We are glad we can be a part of this community and to contribute to its continued growth and development. I implore any independent retailers, restaurant owners or traders to reach out to Southport Independents and the community they are growing and developing online.”
The stunning images on the site were taken by Matthew Rycraft, owner of Matthew Rycraft Photography in Southport.
He said: “We have a great selection of small independent businesses and products in Southport. It is great to see Southport BID investing in time and finances to really help support the Indies of the town.
“Some of these businesses may not have the finances right now to invest on their own imagery, so the BID hiring myself to provide this service demonstrates the support they are trying to provide.”
Sarah Rodriguez said: “We were thrilled to work with Blue Cow Digital and the rest of the team on this site. Partnership and supporting each other is the way we can rebuild, and Blue Cow’s team were excited to be part of the project and support fellow independents, as was Matthew Rycraft and Matt Kay, our graphic designer. It really has been a local teamwork approach.”
