A brand new fidget sensory toy shop has opened in Southport town centre.
Kose Sensory Play has opened as a section within Kelly’s Electrical on Wesley Street, which has been a favourite among generations of shoppers for over 50 years.
The two ventures are combining, to give people ‘two shops in one’.
They are being run by husband and wife John and Kim Kelly.
Kim Kelly said: “Kose Sensory Play is a fidget sensory shop on Wesley Street, Southport. Jack Kelly, our grandfather, of Kelly’s Electrical retired last September and passed down the business to us.
“Kelly’s Electrical will always be here as Kelly’s is still a popular shop that’s been here over 50 years.
“After a declutter we realised we had the space to add a sensory toy section.
“For a long time we have wanted to provide children with additional needs a ‘try before you buy’ sensory shop as we know too well how difficult it is to provide children with calming sensory items which are affordable and durable.”
The couple know just how important and valued good quality sensory toys are.
Kim said: “We have years of experience working with children and adults with additional needs.
“We have five children, one who is diagnosed with autism, and this is the reason why Kose Sensory Play started.
“For years we have watched how sensory items can be so beneficial to keeping children calm and relaxed.
“We have put together our knowledge of sensory items to provide what we believe is a great selection of sensory fidget products – all in one place!
“At the moment every child loves a fidget toy but when that craze passes we still want to be here providing children and adults with additional needs sensory products.
“Since opening we’ve started to supply care homes and schools with our sensory products.
“We are in the middle of creating a website so not only supplying Southport but all over the UK.
“The reaction has been unbelievable. We never expected to see queues of children lining up down Wesley Street just to visit our store.
“It makes our day when we see children jumping up and down with excitement as they enter our store.
“We have seen how busy our shop can get so we are wanting to provide individuals with additional needs quieter hours which will be posted on our social media very soon.”
