New clothes shop LPL Boutique opens in Cambridge Walks

New clothes shop LPL Boutique opens in Cambridge Walks
New openings

A brand new ladies clothes shop has opened in Southport town centre.

LPL Boutique welcomed its first customers on Saturday at Unit 15 in Cambridge Walks, after enjoying success through selling clothes online on Instagram and Facebook.

LPL stands for Lucy, Phoebe and Lizzie, in honour of Mum, Lizzie McMullen, and her two daughters Phoebe, aged 8, and Lucy, aged 20.

Lizzie and her partner Karl Evason were running The Fleetwood pub in Banks until recently – when the brewery gave them notice to leave, telling them they had sold the property to be converted from a pub into a Co-Op supermarket.

Lucy had been enjoying growing success through selling ladies fashions online so the family decided to open their first high street shop here in Southport town centre.

Lizzie thought their new shop looked perfect the second they saw it, and says that they love the ‘family atmosphere’ inside the bustling Cambridge Arcade and Cambridge Walks.

She said: “We opened on Saturday and have had a great response from shoppers.

“We are going to be open on Easter weekend and on Easter Monday – the weather is looking good and we think Southport is going to be busy this Easter weekend!

“At LPL Boutique we sell ladies’ wear. We cater for all sizes, from size 6 to size 24.

“We have a plus range, we have a teenage range, we try to cater for everyone.

“We sell online through LPL Boutique on Instagram and Facebook, and we are looking to set up our website soon.

“My eldest daughter, Lucy, runs our online shop, from our office in Salford.”

The family hails from Salford and Jersey in the Channel Islands, but now live in Banks near Southport.

Lizzie said: “We ran The Fleetwood pub in Banks before the Covid pandemic and worked hard to get through the first Covid lockdown.

“Then the brewery gave us our notice to leave. They said they had sold the building to Co-Op, which has since opened a supermarket on the site.

“It is a shame because it was a real asset for the whole community.”

The decision to open the LPL Boutique in Southport was one which the family felt was a gamble worth taking – and a real opportunity they couldn’t miss.

Lizzie said: “Opening our new shop here was a leap of faith!

“We looked around at a few potential shop units, but when this one came up we thought it was the perfect place for us.”

Big things are happening in and around Cambridge Arcade and Cambridge Walks at the moment.

Sefton Council is about to invest £400,000 in renovating the historic Victorian-era Cambridge Arcade. Planning permission has been granted to convert the former BHS department store on one side of the arcade into new apart-hotel rooms, shops, a cafe and a pub. And a new Southport Enterprise Arcade, hosting new start-up businesses, is due to open next year at the other end of the site.

Life inside the arcade is busy, with the units nearly all now full and another new tenant due to move in in a couple of weeks. More will be revealed soon.

Lizzie said: “We love the arcade. It has got a real family feel to it.”
