9 ways to enjoy Southport, all within the rules!

9 ways to enjoy Southport, all within the rules!
Guides & Top Tens

We aren’t going to lie, even we had to read and re-read the lates round of regulations several times to understand what is allowed and what isn’t (we are also pretty sure that by time you read this blog there may even be more restrictions too).  One thing we do know though, is that our much loved independents are still open, we can still shop, we can still enjoy a meal inside a restaurant or a drink with friends in a beer garden.  Things may well get worse before they get better – and this is why we all need to enjoy what we can, where we can all while keeping each other safe and keeping our Southport independents open through the winter.

Here is just a little inspiration as to how you can get out and enjoy our town, all while staying safe:

Enjoy a coffee and a stroll courtesy of 92 Degrees

1. Catch some Autumn sun

If you spot some crisp blue skies, make the most of a chance to catch up with friends with a coffee (or gin) on Remedy’s terrace. Their pods are perfect for a little shelter and a safely distanced catch up.  Alternatively, grab a couple of take away flat whites from 92 Degrees and take a stroll with some one you have missed. Catch up, put the world to rights and take the opportunity to enjoy our beautiful town and it’s architecture in the Autumn light

2. Have a hometown staycation

Not got away much this year? Need to escape your four walls?  Have a family over nighter in one of Southport’s superb bed and breakfasts. Our guest houses have the highest standards and have worked flat out to make sure visitors are safe when they stay.  Make like a tourist and book a romantic night or take the whole family and spend the weekend realising just why so many people love a Southport staycation.  Check out Visit Southport’s ‘Stay small stay safe’ for some inspiration or see some of our picks below

3. Enjoy a wander round The Atkinson

Wander in from the rain and take a quiet stroll around The Atkinson’s latest exhibition’s.  Head to the library to stock up on boredom stemming lockdown reads and spend some time appreciating their latest collection, ‘My Neighbourhood’ with images from around the borough during isolation or catch ‘The Triumph of Art’ starting this weekend and on until December.  Finish your afternoon off with a cosy coffee and homemade cake in A Great Little Place.

Struggling to find rainy day ideas for the kids?  They’ll love a happy couple of hours exploring the brilliant, interactive museum and do a little home schooling with a meander around the galleries followed by a snuggle and read in the libraries boat.  We recommend treating them to hot chocolates in Cranberries on your way out.

4. Enjoy a classic

There aren’t many new film releases coming out this year, but step forward Bijou cinema.  They show some of the absolute all time classics each week in their fully equipped, comfy cinema.  As independent business owners, they are paying extra attention to making sure that you enjoy a safe, socially distanced experience.  Enjoy some quiet time just you and a vintage classic, introduce the kids to your childhood favourites or enjoy big screen hits with housemates.

5. Cosy Family roast dinner

As the colder weather is now officially here, drag the family from the sofa movie marathon and enjoy a full roast dinner in the snug of a proper pub.  The Cheshire Lines has an amazing roast and great mini versions for the littler ones or head to The Bold Hotel and let everyone dig into a carvery!

6. Take on a quiz night

Head out with the housemates, or bond with your other half over a classic quiz night at The Windmill or The Guesthouse!  We all got a little Zoom quiz jaded somewhere back in late April, nothing really beats the fun and banter of a proper quiz in a proper pub with great beer and even better food.  The Windmill has 25% off food until 7pm Wednesday and their quiz starts at 8pm – perfect evening right there.

8. Have a luxury day at work

Not getting much done at home and need some peace?  Or do you just want to spoil yourself a little.  Book a “Daycation” Office at The Vincent, complete with use of their gym or go all out and add on a treatment in the spa.  With their excellent wifi their elegant board rooms are a great setting to work. Or why not just go the whole hog and book a room just don’t blame us if you don’t ACTUALLY get any more work done.

9. Shop, shop, shop!

Our independent shops are all still open, still here and still working hard to keep you safe.  There are so many gorgeous and unique things to find.  Take this time as an opportunity to rediscover what there is to offer.  Southport offers a safe, open and friendly place to shop compared to the cities, and the small businesses here need your money far more then Amazon does right now.  Spend an afternoon window shopping with a friend and rediscover little gems on Union Street, Wesley Street and the Market Quarter.  Have a days peace from the kids and pick great little gifts from Lavish Home, Betsy Boo or Doodles Craft Room.
