Southport’s independent cinema is looking forward to finally ending lockdown and reopening this month – with an iconic movie about a man trying to break out of a prison!
Bijou Cinema, on Post Office Avenue in Southport town centre, will celebrate being able to welcome back customers with a special screening of The Shawshank Redemption.
The movie, starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, earned seven Academy Award nominations.
Southport Bijou Cinema Manager Andy Harrison said: “The Southport Bijou Cinema is back! “Lockdown has been difficult for us all, so we’re super happy to announce we are breaking free of the shackles of lockdown on Monday 17th May with classic The Shawshank Redemption.
“This beautiful and touching story of the friendship between two prisoners – Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins – is frequently cited as one of the greatest films ever made.
“Social distancing guidelines will remain in place until June 21st, so make sure you book tickets online or on site after the 17th May to avoid the disappointment of reduced capacity seating! “We’ve missed everyone so much and can’t wait to see our audience and celebrate cinema in the community together again.”

Tuesday 18th May – Rebecca
Thursday 20th May – The Lost Boys
