An award-winning gift shop is delighted to open a concession in the new Beales department store in Southport.
Last year Medusa Gems was recognised as one of the top four gift shops in the UK, after being named as a Finalist in The Greats Gifts Retailer Awards 2020.
The shop stands proud at the front of the elegant Wayfarers Arcade on Lord Street, and is now enjoying selling its beautiful gifts and gemstone jewellery sourced from all over the world in the new Beales store next door too.
Shoppers will be able to enjoy a range of gifts including gemstone jewellery, home fragrance, glassware, gifts, crystals, ornaments and home decor.
Medusa Gems is also an exclusive Ashleigh & Burwood retailer and is also an official stockist of Wild Things Swarovski Crystals, Quail Ceramics and Aromatize, the market leaders in wax melt burners and candle accessories.
The family business is run by Helen Pallis and Carl Pallis, who started their business in Greece before relocating to Southport just over five years ago.
Helen Pallis said: “We are so thrilled to be expanding and opening a concession in the new Beales department store, right next door to where we are now. We are also staying in our shop at the front of Wayfarers Arcade.
“You will be able to find us on the first floor selling all your favourite gifts and more.
“Medusa Gems Gifts in Beales will bring you the finest quality gifts and home fragrance products for yourselves and as gifts for your loved ones.
“On a personal note, it feels like going home and being part of the family again after my perfumery days.”
Hundreds of people queued outside Beales excitedly waiting for it to officially open on 12th August.
Helen Pallis shares their enthusiasm, as someone who previously worked at Beales and also at the Broadbents & Boothroyds department store which came before it.
She is delighted to see the new department store now open.
She said: “I used to enjoy working at Broadbents & Boothroyds. It feels like going home!
“Opening a new Medusa Gems concession in the new Beales is a fabulous opportunity.
“When we first opened in Wayfarers Arcade, we were based at the back of the arcade, and then after a year we moved to the front and expanded.
“Now we are expanding again.”
This is a positive time for the town, with the arrival of Beales following the opening of the new Southport Market food, drink and events venue last month following its £1.4million transformation.
Figures released by Springboard Research Ltd in August showed that over 5 million people have visited Southport already this year, which is 16.6% up on the previous year.
Helen said: “I really do believe that we are turning the corner here in Southport.
“For Beales to open a new department store here is superb. It is right in the heart of the town centre.
“Our shop has had everybody coming in, asking us about when Beales would be opening. It was like being the tourist information centre!
“Now that it is open, it will bring visitors back to come and shop on Lord Street again.”
It’s news worth celebrating.
Medusa Gems was celebrating last year too, after being named as a Finalist in The Greats Gifts Retailer Awards 2020.
Helen said: “We got into the final four from the whole country! That was a remarkable achievement.
“We were really thrilled, we were as proud as punch.”
Medusa Gems began life in Evia in Greece around 12 years ago, selling jewellery, both in-store, and all around the world through itss online operation.
Helen said: “We are striving to bring in new quality products all the time. We aim to sell good quality items, something different, something unique, and something for everyone at a range of prices, from £1 to £500.”
