In today’s 20 Questions we put Personal Trainer and Owner of From The Block Fitness independent gym and personal training space Lisa Little through the paces.

Lisa opened her business at The Waterfront, next to Bliss Hotel, in Southport in October 2020. 

After successfully coming through the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic and its series of lockdowns, Lisa has now revealed exciting plans for expansion. 

Visitors will soon be able to enjoy a fully equipped members gym and chill area, where people can take their time and stay as long as they want. 

From The Block Fitness offers a variety of support including personal training, group training, circuit training and more – all at great value for money and without the big sell for long contracts that some larger gyms are so keen to tie people into.

3 – What type of business is it? Gym 

4 – When did the business open? October 2020 

5 – Three words that describe your leadership style? Motivating, empathetic, understanding 

6 – Favourite part of the job? Watching people achieve fitness goals that they never thought they could

7 – Challenges you have overcome? Lockdowns, restrictions, business rates and my biggest challenge entering a competitive industry at the age of 40 brand new to personal training and after a complete career change

8 – Biggest achievements in work?  Gaining my level 3 PT qualification at 40, launching a career in this industry in my garden garage in March 2020 and by October 2020 opening From the Block Fitness at the Waterfront in Southport

9 – Biggest achievements away from work? I’d have to say, my three children aged 23, 12 and 10 years-old. They are and always will be my proudest moments

10 – Three things that are crucial to a business’s success? Adaptability, tenacity and an open mind

11 – What is your priority for 2022? To create a welcoming, safe training environment where people want to come and then want to return with friends

12 – How do you unwind? I like to exercise, but my favourite pastime is spending time with my husband and children. We like to go out as a family in Southport, you can usually find us in one of the many amazing restaurants around town

13 – What songs are on your playlist at the moment? George Ezra Anytime and an absolute 90s dance classic – Heart of Gold by Kelly Lorena 

14 – What do you love about Southport? The endless things to do here. The amount of beautiful outside space to enjoy, parks, beaches, woods etc and the F&B offering is endless  

15 – What is your hidden talent? I’m not sure I have one 

16 – What word sums up your philosophy? Live 

17 – Name two other Southport businesses you like and why?  Hair by Katie Matthews in Southport, this lady makes my hair look less like it’s been dragged through a hedge and Bliss Hotel, has to be my favourite place to do some work on my laptop whilst drinking good coffee and enjoying some spectacular views

18 – Favourite film? This is tough, a top 10 would be easier, but if I had to choose one that I can watch over and over, I’d say Pretty Woman and that classic line from the film… “big mistake, huge!” 

19 – If you could bring one thing to Southport what would it be? More independent retailers, in particular womenswear and teenage boys clothing

20 – Why should we shop local? Use it or lose it, it’s that simple
